PreGame:
USA: are a tough solid no nonsense unit, that can find goals when required. Under Jürgen Klinsmann they also have a manger who trains teams to attack at pace. Make no mistake this American team is good.
Its then very unfortunate that this strong USA team are also lumped in with Germany, Portugal and Ghana. As good as I think the USA are, I don’t think they can beat Germany or Portugal. I could be wrong but I wouldn’t bet on them getting out of the group.
But the USA do play a strong style of football. They rarely give away cheap possession, are strong physically, and can score goals. They are a good team and coming off some very impressive form maybe Klinsmann has a trick or two up his sleeve?
Ghana: The last world cup was heartbreaking for Ghana. Last minute penalty miss and then beaten by Uruguay on penalties to go out of the world cup, was disheartening for all who watched. Can the present team put that horror show behind them?
Well unfortunately they got the worst group possible, Germany, USA and Portugal. All the teams are physically quite strong and are hard to beat. Any of these four you would fancy in any other group. It really is the group of death.
Looking at their squad Ghana still have a good core of the 2010 team left. The heavy hitters are still around; Kevin-Prince Boateng, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan. Players that would walk into the starting lineup of most of the world cup teams. Ghana certainly have the personal to do well.
They are a team that can also score goals, as they proved in the qualifying as Africa’s top scorers with 25 goals. So back to front that have a good squad.
But its the group of death. Germany are a match player for player, USA under Klinsman will be tough and a Portugal with Ronaldo are always dangerous. The games will be very close and tight in this group. For Ghana the first game is key, they need a win against the USA to have any chance of progression from the group.

The USA were very lucky to come out of this game with a win. Ghana really deserved a point. A good game to watch with lots of drama and goal mouth action.
My man of the match was Tim Howard in goals. He is a old style goal keeper in that he can actually catch a ball, no flapping, and instill huge confidence in his back four. A safe pair of hands, who kept his team in this match with a couple of good saves.
The USA scored very early, less than a minute, but did nothing after that. I suppose Altidore pulling his hamstring and going off early was a huge blow for the team as he was a decent holding player. Jóhannsson, who came on for Altidore, barely got a touch of the ball all game. A really poor player to have as backup. But he wasnt the only one. The USA have a lot of passengers taking it easy on that team. Bradley didn’t play well at all, not up to his usual high standards, seen shirking tackles and not tracking back.
I say it again, the USA were lucky. Lucky that they played a team with no decent strikers. Ghana had 21 shots towards goal with only three on target. That’s quite amazing. But give those opportunities to Germany or Ronaldo, and the USA wont be so happy after the game.
Ghana have to play Germany next in what will be another very physical encounter. Hopefully Muller wont end up in casualty, the poor soul.
