Uruguay V Costa Rica
After match synopsis in red!!
Pregame bets:
Uruguay -2 is 10/3
Over 2.5 goals 23/20
Amazing result, absolutely amazing from Costa Rica and I never saw it coming. Uruguay never looked like scoring,a lot of huffing and puffing but no real action. At least I got over 2.5 goals. Saviour.

Who is set to win the battle of the beers? Imperial V ? Unfortunately I couldn’t source any beer from Uruguay so this will be a one sided affair. Click on picture for a preview of the beer. Get the Imperial review afterwards.
Imperial won by default, could not source a beer from Uruguay. Read here for full beer report
PreGame:
Uruguay have a good team. We saw that in the last world cup.
But how bad is Suarez’s niggling injury. He will miss the first game against Costa Rica and its still not officially confirmed if he will start against England. You would imagine Uruguay without Suarez can still beat Costa Rica
Their midfield is relatively strong and once again the reliable Diego Lugano comes back to captain his team from defence.
Costa Rica: One could feel for Costa Rica, an average team unfortunately lumped in with three heavy weights of world football, Italy, Uruguay and, eh, England. In another group they might have a chance of a win against another bottom feeder team, but in this group no way. I would be honestly surprised if Costa Rica manage to score more than one goal in the three games.
Nothing stands out in their squad, and although they did well to qualify in second place in the Concacaf qualifying, ahead of Mexico, I think they will be heading home early. A first round exit.
A more detailed review on Costa Rica here and on Uruguay here
An excellent performance from Costa Rica. The same could not be said for their opponents. Uruguay looked very laboured, and made awful hard work of moving the ball forward. Forlan was rubbish, and hadn’t a sniff of a goal.
And as for the captain, Lugano, he was a terrible liability in the centre of defence. He could not defend anything, and I would be surprised if Tabarez sticks with him for the next game, even if he is captain and has a big reputation. Surely someone on the bench couldn’t play as bad?
Was very interesting to see that Uruguay didn’t do as much diving in the second half, funny that!
Costa Rica were well worth their victory and all three goals were great. Man of the match for me was Joel Campbell, who once again shows the footballing world his long range striking abilities. Wonder what club will snap him up in the autumn transfer window. But his all round game was good too, excellent harrowing and tracking back, good mazy runs, good support play, all round top performance. Brilliant.
Uruguay now go on to play England in what will be a real humdinger of a match, loser goes out of the world cup, while Costa Rica can now take the Italy game with a little more leg room, maybe set up for a draw. This result today was very interesting.
