ThisDrinkingLife and The World Cup: Uruguay
Uruguay have a good team. We saw that in the last world cup. With Suarez and Cavani up front, that’s a strike force than cause problems for any defence. Both players coming off the end of a fantastic club season where between them they scored 47 league goals. Suarez nearly averaging a goal a game. Not bad considering Liverpool didn’t give him much support when the chips were down.
But how bad is Suarez’s niggling injury. He will miss the first game against Costa Rica and its still not officially confirmed if he will start against England. You would imagine Uruguay without Suarez can still beat Costa Rica, but they really need him upfront against the English.
Their midfield is relatively strong and once again the reliable Diego Lugano comes back to captain his team from defence. But both Italy and England also have decent squads. To get out of this group you have to look at the strikers. Balotelli, Rooney and Sturridge, and Suarez and Cavani. Pick your top from that awesome selection and you will get the teams that will exit group D. I’m going for Italy to top the group, with England just to shade it over Uruguay. Having said that Uruguay have never lost to England in the world cup, so we will see!
Suarez is the key and I feel with his injury and his long season of pressure and expectations, he looks tired at this stage, and might not be able to do enough to shoot his country into round two.
