ThisDrinkingLife and The World Cup: Russia
This is a big chance for Russia to finally get off their arse’s and do something in World Football. It has been ages since they have done anything at World Level. Now initially I thought that they might struggle in their group, a group with Uruguay and Egypt and Salah, but now that Mo looks crocked I have to rethink that. I guess Egypt without Mo are definitely doable and the Saudis to start with are three points in the bag. By the time the Uruguay game turns around they might be already through.
Of course Russia have had their own injury woes with long time striker and Zenit hit man Alexander Kokorin out with a cruciate, otherwise they dont really have much firepower up front. As for the rest of the team, I wouldn’t know a whole lot about any of them as most, if not all, play in the Russian league.
As for form they haven’t done a whole lot too, getting spanked by Brazil and France, shipping six goals in the process. There was the 3-3 draw with Spain last year, but in the Confederation Cup, the pre world cup warm up event, they looked their usual rigid and dull self.
Prediction wise, at this early stage I think they might just sneak out of the group and then get to play either Spain or Portugal in the second round, and that will be the end of that. Pity as I sincerely would like them to do well, but they lack creativity and that extra bit of passion to progress. I fear this World Cup will be a failure for Russia both on the field and off it, but heh lets see.
