ThisDrinkingLife and The World Cup: Ivory Coast
With a relatively easy group this could be the time for the Ivory Coast to put on a show in this years World Cup. In their last two world cup appearances they had pretty awful groups, lumped in with Brazil and Portugal last time, and Argentina and the Netherlands the other. I feel they have enough in their squad to overcome both Colombia and Japan and give Greece a close game for top spot of Group C
For me its all about the physical strength of this team, They will have some strong physically demanding players who get the ball and power through defenses. Think of Drogba. Think of the Toure Brothers. Think of Gervinho.
Not only have we this power but this team also has a lot of international experience and players who have played in the world cup before. I think that counts for something. They know what they have to do to win. And no Sven to mess it all up for them this time, phew!
key player for me and a somewhat very underrated player is Serey Die. Another very physical player he rarely loses the ball and can show off some skill when required. I am sure not much will get past this African version of Roy Keane.
So I predict that the Ivory Coast will steamroll out of this group, but with a chance of meeting one of Italy/Uruguay/England in the second round that’s as far as they will get, but like Greece that will be a first for them in getting out of their group.
