Didn’t win, but to be honest, with all the goal mouth action it really could have been that score!
Beers: Group F of Beer World Cup:
For today’s beer match up I have Corona, the laid back Mexican beer, up against Zombräu, a beer brought back from the dead!
V
Zombrau get the victory here, loads to taste, a slow burner and very enjoyable, whole Corona is nice enough but hasn’t enough kick to be considered a player.
PreGame:
Die mannschaft, Germany, definitely are hot favourites to repeat their 2016 win. They have a squad heavily loaded with top class players, not just the first eleven but a bench full of quality too. They won 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup with pretty much a second team. They ooze confidence as the Germans can only know, sure in the knowledge that they have what it takes to win the cup again. Ten out of ten in the qualifying can sure do great things for a squad.
Ok the squad have lost Bastian Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm and Miroslav Klose and Manuel Neuer might be a bit out of form with a slow recovery from injury, but its still a squad with some serious amount of talent. Mats Hummels is still the rock in defence, Toni Kroos has stepped forward to run the show in midfield, and Thomas Müller is sure to score up front (and dive like the bitch he is!). Added to that is the fact that big things are expected of Timo Werner who has scored aplenty in the Bundesliga, and PFA Young Player of the Year Leroy Sané, who likes to bomb it up the wings. But really the thing with the German squad is that they slot into positions so easily, they have plenty of talent in all areas of the field, and can afford to take the hit of an injury to the team. Its hard to pick any weaknesses in this team.
In the last six tournaments Mexico have made the last 16 but no more, playing good football along the way. But its like a mental thing that stops them from progressing to the last eight. Its not like they haven’t done it before, they have twice before in 1986 and in 1970, but for a team of the quality of Mexico, 32 years is a long time to break that barrier.
Rafael Márquez is back for his fifth World Cup, yes his fifth! He is a wily old player, 39 to be exact, world class in his day, but I do wonder what the hell he is doing back with the team considering his two mistakes cost Mexico in the last World Cup and got them knocked out by the Dutch. Could he not have just let it go? Actually looking at the squad, it is quite an old squad, Héctor Moreno also a rock in defence (30), Andrés Guardado (31) and Giovani dos Santos (29) back in midfield and Javier Hernández (30) upfront. This will be the final swansong for a lot of the Mexican players on the world stage.
Can they do it this time and finally make the last eight? I dont think so. For two good reasons. Germany and Brazil stand in their way of doing that. Today is a big test for them. Get a result against the Germans today and they have a massive chance, but that would be a huge achievement for them and to be honest not likely at all.
I fully expect Germany to put Mexico to the sword today. For sure Mexico wont make it easy for them, but I would imagine over the 90 minutes the Germans will come out on top, and also have a few goals in the bag too

Ha ha well so much for tipping Germany, they just got suckered punched today by an extremely high octane Mexican team. Well done to Mexico on their victory, I was a little worried for them in near the end that they might rue all those chances they wasted, about 10 of them by my count, but no they held on for the victory.
Great goal by Lozano, brilliant to get the drag back and the space to rifle it home. Excellent move from the back, and in three lovely movements he was in.
Great game, can always rely on Mexico to entertain, they are relentless in their attack. Was great to hear the “ole ole” ringing out from the crowd, certainly they approved of the show the Mexican players had put on for them today.
Germany were disappointing, I wonder if Low regrets leaving Leroy Sané back home, as they could have done with his pace and vision today. I mean what the fuck is Khedira still plodding around in the team for, they have Ozil to do that rubbish.
Shout out to the Mexican goalkeeper Ochoa to was solid and kept a very cool head today. Also great to see the legend that is Márquez equal the record of 5 WC appearances, brilliant stuff.
Music to get you in the mood
