Brazil:
Looking forward to the national anthems at the start, should be amazing, the whole place singing with pride, very stirring for the old soul. It is such a pity that the Brazilians players are not showing that same passion on the pitch. They have played pretty poor stuff so far in this competition.
I wonder will Fred be playing? He was very slow in the first two games, way off the pace, and barely got a shot on target. Two and a half hours of football and Scolari, eventually hauled him off in the last game.
Neymar had another decent game and was very unlucky not to score, but that was down to the brilliance of the Mexican goalkeeper. But would imagine he will have an easier time tonight in scoring. The Cameroon goalkeeper and back four have not exactly handled themselves in gory so far, letting in 4 goals in the last game. Just a note of warning, Neymar is on a yellow card so he wouldn’t want to do anything too crazy tonight least he misses the next game, every game crucial for Brazil at this stage.
Brazil are not a good team at all, they look very very ordinary and they will struggle onwards as its not going to get any better for them. But they are lucky now that they have Cameroon as the last game. As bad as they are at the moment they surely cant mess this one up. What about a Fred hat-trick to prove all his doubters wrong?
Cameroon: Cameroon’s lack of defending at the back and the early red card for Song cost them in their game against Croatia. The Cameroon goalkeeper was also very nervous dropping shots regularly.
Pity about Cameroon. I bet they now regret their defensiveness in their first game. Still though, they can now look forward to playing Brazil in a world cup, and try and bow out in style. Would be nice to think that they could score a goal against Brazil, but I doubt it will happen. Bye bye Cameroon, see you in four years time.
A more detailed review on Brazil here and on Cameroon here
Short review as looked at the other tie in the group and just caught highlights of this game.
Neymar did it again, two nice goals, and he has dragged his team into the second round. Whatever Messi can do for his team, Neymar can do for Brazil.
I can’t believe how much space the Cameron defenders gifted him for the second goal, there was no tackles going in, and he calmly slotted into the corner of the goals as he had acres of space to shoot. Well taken, but you have to mention the lack of defending there from Cameroon.
Cameroon scored to silence the crowd in the first half, and got people worrying for a few minutes. Nyom beat Dani Alves and squared it for Matip to score from close range. Well worked goal.
It didn’t last though as Neymar got one back, then Fernandinho, who came on as a sub and who was very lively all game, scored an excellent fourth goal. Hopefully his performance will have done enough to convince Scholari to start him in the next game.
And then the biggest shock of the night, no Cameroon did not score again but Fred scored to silence the crowd. He finally scored with a header, just to prove he does know where the goals are. Still shit though!
Now Brazil get to take on Chile in the second round in what will be the mother of all battles. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Chile knock them out, as they have played some wonderful attacking football so far in a much tougher group. But with the crowd behind them and Neymar on form Brazil will also have a good chance of making the last eight.
For Cameroon it was a terrible World Cup from start to finish. The win bonus fiasco at the start overshadowed their team. How you can get a win bonus for losing all your games beats me, but anyway see you in four years time Cameroon. Adios.
Music to get you in the mood
