ThisDrinkingLife and The World Cup:Brazil
Brazil are favourites for the world cup, at home, with all their history and an attacking squad. But I really am struggling to see a lot of quality in their squad. A lot of flare players who are good at going forward but when the chips are down then what?
I think they might struggle against well organised European teams who could grind out a result against them. Their strikers are not the best. I don’t see any player that will score a brace for them for instance. I know Neymar is hot at the moment but how did he do this year in the Champions League or against Real Madrid, or Atletico, ie the big club games of the season.
For this reason I full expect Brazil to get a lot of the 50-50 decisions and full protection from the referees. They might get past a few teams with lucky frees, and what price a penalty in their game against Croatia? The World Cup needs the hosts, and I fear there will be some ridiculous referring errors in their games.
Luiz Felipe Scolari is also an iffy manager, who likes to stick with a rigid system, but he has won the World Cup before and so he might work the oracle again for Brazil
The Key player for Brazil is Ramires, who has made the final cut, but I wonder will he get as much game time as Luiz Gustavo is the preferred box player.
So how do I think Brazil will do?
Well obviously they will come out of the group, but I think the pressure will be on them from the get go, and if things don’t go to plan early on, then they might struggle in games. I will stick my neck out and even suggest that they might even find it difficult to beat a compact Croatia in the first game. Either a draw or a dodgy late winner? So final predication, no World Cup winners medal for Neymar
