ThisDrinkingLife and The World Cup: Bosnia and Herzegovina
Don’t know a whole lot about Bosnia and Hertz I am afraid. But I do know playing Argentina first up they better be good or they will get a quick harsh introduction to world cup football. They could already be three points behind both Argentina and Nigeria when they meet Nigeria in their second game. They really need to get a result against Nigeria to have any chance of making the second round.
Well done to their coach, Safet Sušić, for getting them into the world cup. It’s always nice to see a new nation competing in the cup.
Their squad have few standout names, but they do seem to have a lot of players plying their trade in the big leagues of Europe. Edin Džeko is the key man, a player we are all very familiar with after his few seasons with Manchester City. He can score goals, and in this group that could be the key. In fact in qualifying Bosnia scored 30 goals. That’s a strike rate to frighten any defence.
But having said all that, they qualified from a very easy qualification group, just ahead of Greece, Slovakia, Lithuania Latvia, and Liechtenstein. So they have never really got a true test.
The big game for them is against Nigeria. They will lose to Argentina and should beat Iran, but its against the Super Eagles that will determine if they qualify to the second round. I am going to say that Nigeria, with their world cup experience, will just about shade it.
