Kirin Ichiban V Mythos: 1-0 to Kirin. That excellent creamy aftertaste from the Kirin Ichiban brew does it for me in this battle. Both beers were very smooth and refreshing to drink. Mythos had a stronger beery feel to it and is a nice drink to look at. While Kirin is clean, crisp with a lovely aroma. But as mentioned, Kirin wins due to its delicious aftertaste.  Click on links below for full beer information and reviews.day 8 b 012

 PreGame:

Japan had the beating of Ivory Coast in the first game, but wilted terribly in the second half. Their short passing, high tempo, counter attacking game was difficult for them to maintain in the heat and humidity of Brazil. Against a team as slow as Greece this might not be such a problem, and I am sure that Honda will get a good few chances tonight. All set pieces will be hugely valuable to the Japanese in this game

Greece: Was very disappointed with Greece in their first game. No real passion, drive or skill shown from the team. They were also a bit clueless going forward. For one of Europe’s best defences to ship three goals was a bit of a shock.

It also seemed that their sole attacking formula involved running to the penalty box with the ball and taking a dive. No effort to shoot just fall.Pathetic.

But don’t Greece always lose the first game? I still expect them to come out of this tight group, but they would need a huge improvement tonight against Japan. They will be very cagey but will use their height advantage to win this game.

Close game to call, but I am going for a Greece victory tonight in a type of cagey game they are used to winning.

A more detailed review on Japan here and on Greece here

Another tight game, another scoreless match. Yes Greece were playing!. To be honest the game was not as bad as you would expect. It was actually quite open at the start with a lot of surprising chances for both sides.

Then Konstantinos Katsouranis, the captain, was sent off for his team, for getting a second yellow card. He deserved to go, and was fairly foolish to be diving in when already on a yellow card. His loss pretty much meant that Greece set up shop for the draw. They are not the worlds best attacking team with 11 men on the field, with 10 men they wont attack at all.

With the sending off Greece were under the cosh in the first half as the Japanese just piled on the pressure. Japan’s Osako had a good game, causing some problems for the Greek defence, but he was substituted in the second half, more than likely the heat had taken something out of him. But for all their effort they just could not score.

The referee sent one guy off then proceeded in the second half to give every 50-50 decision to Greece. Japan got nothing off the ref in the second half, so order was kind of restored for Greece.

Then the game settled down for a while, and the Greeks made more of an effort, making goalkeeper Kawashima pull off a few good saves to keep Japan in the game.

But Japan missed some really decent chances of their own in the second half with Okubo putting a good chance well wide near the end.

Next up for Greece they have to play the Ivory Coast in a game they don’t look likely to be able to win. If they can score a goal before they go home that would be an achievement for this team.

Japan will play table toppers Colombia, and they also will struggle to get goals. Honda was a little below par against Greece and if he isn’t clicking then Japan are not going to do well.

Still all to play for both teams but the smart money is on Ivory coast pipping them to that last spot for the second round.
